Using outside control, particularly punishment, to teach self-control does not work. It only teaches not to get caught!
I'm still learning and working on my self-control, to better teach my children. Some of the best resources I have found are Positive Discipline, many of them Christian as well. Positive Christian AP (AP = attachment parenting) is a wonderful list of caring Christian parents. The biggest change for me is remembering that discipline is action. I cannot sit down and only use words to teach discipline. I must help my children to succeed and using the 5 steps is the best way to see positive discipline in action.
